I got my feet strapped in
running start, over the cones
we’re learning to fly
first monday in february,
watching derby basic practice
and skating round outside the track.
I can say I’ve skated backwards
after falling so many times.
finally figured it out once
and then repeated the motion.
be the flamingo. so sublime.
adrenaline, forward motion,
speed. up and away, race the pain.
very intense practice, learning
to transition, stop and go, and
hop. must pay more attention to
my surroundings. tunnel vision
forgot to breath. restraint, what’s that?
is it time to learn something new?
